Today is the first International Day of the Girl. Today all of us who contributed our talents to Womanthology: Heroic decided to do something special for the occasion. So today, we gave $10,000 TO THIS CHARITY.
For those of you who haven't heard, Young Malala Yousafzau (14) of Pakistan, was recently shot in the head by the Taliban while on her school bus for promoting messages of education for girls in her country. For years she had continued to try and spread a positive message of love and peace despite repeated threats on her life, and now she now fights for her life to survive her wounds. The entire world is angered over this horrible event. And many are turning their attention towards taking action to further help promote Malala's dream of furthering education for girls.
As most of you know, we created Womanthology: Heroic to help Charities around the world. The money earned on our Kickstarter meant there was enough to print a larger amount of books for regular distribution (i.e. online sales, book stores, comic shops) of which all of the proceeds go to Charity through Global Giving. Our current earnings are at $34,000 and we're currently nominating Charities HERE (everyone can partake on this part! :) ) for Womanthology contributors and Kickstarter Backers to vote on which final Charities we'll give to.
However, Malala's story spoke to many of us, and upon finding that Charity on Global Giving, which helps educate 1000 girls in Pakistan, and further promotes Malala's message to support education for girls, we decided to give the full $10,000 to fulfill this Charity. It's made all the better to be able to do this on International Day of the Girl, which is entirely fitting :)
I hope that people tell Malala her message of love and peace was not ignored, and it made an impact on many. Incredible thanks go to the amazing women who contributed their talents to this book, all of our supporters, and to the people of Global Giving. I hope others will continue to take action to promote positive change, whether it be helping others, or even spreading the word of peace.
As for the rest, there is still $24,000 of profits to disperse to Charities, so please go to GlobalGiving.org and post your nominated Charity HERE! :)
